Nose surgery in New Jersey

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

During nose surgery, plastic surgeons may reshape the nasal bones, cartilage and soft tissues inside the nose to improve the appearance and functionality when necessary. The final outcome of nose surgery relates to the surgeon’s technical skill and artistic expertise. Sometimes, there are limits to the procedure. For example, intracranial features and skin condition are features of the nose that cannot be altered in nose surgery and may have a role in the outcome of the procedure. Complication risks are very low, but sometimes unavoidable in nose surgery. The patient’s compliance with post operative instructions following the procedure also plays a role in the final outcome of nose surgery.

It is true that some complications may result from error in surgery. Though, all in all the risks are very low in nose surgery. Complications can usually be managed through treatment by a plastic surgeon and some complications may require secondary nose surgery. Yet, the rewards from relief of nasal birth defects, trauma, or an unsatisfactory nasal appearance are plentiful for most all nose surgery patients.

By exploring some complication risks, people interested in nose surgery can see how their part in nose surgery is an important component in surgical outcomes. Following your surgeon’s instructions is vital in limiting complications. Ask your surgeon any questions and concerns you may have about your healing process. Once you go home to heal, call the staff with questions that may come up during your healing process.

Nose Surgery by Dr. Piro

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the most common of all plastic surgery procedures. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also correct a birth defect or injury, or help relieve some breathing problems.

When rhinoplasty is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, complications are infrequent and usually minor. Nevertheless, there is always a possibility of complications, including infection, nosebleed, or a reaction to the anesthesia. You can reduce your risks by closely following your surgeon’s instructions both before and after surgery.

In the days following surgery, when your face is bruised and swollen, it’s easy to forget that you will be looking better. In fact, many patients feel depressed for a while after plastic surgery-it’s quite normal and understandable.

Still, healing is a slow and gradual process. Some subtle swelling may be present for months, especially in the tip. The final results of rhinoplasty may not be apparent for a year or more.

Dr. Piro’s Liposuction techniques

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Fluid Injection, a technique in which a medicated solution is injected into fatty areas before the fat is removed, is commonly used by plastic surgeons today. The fluid — a mixture of intravenous salt solution, lidocaine (a local anesthetic) and epinephrine (a drug that contracts blood vessels) — helps the fat be removed more easily, reduces blood loss and provides anesthesia during and after surgery. Fluid injection also helps to reduce the amount of bruising after surgery.

Large volumes of fluid — sometimes as much as three times the amount of fat to be removed — are injected in the tumescent technique. Tumescent liposuction, typically performed on patients who need only a local anesthetic, usually takes significantly longer than traditional liposuction (sometimes as long as 4 to 5 hours). However, because the injected fluid contains an adequate amount of anesthetic, additional anesthesia may not be necessary.

The super-wet technique is similar to the tumescent technique, except that lesser amounts of fluid are used. Usually the amount of fluid injected is equal to the amount of fat to be removed. This technique often requires IV sedation or general anesthesia and typically takes one to two hours of surgery time.

Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL). This technique requires the use of a special cannula that produces ultrasonic energy. As it passes through the areas of fat, the energy explodes the walls of the fat cells, liquefying the fat. The fat is then removed with the traditional liposuction technique.

Facial Surgery in California

A Facelift is designed to lift, smooth, firm and reverse the visible signs of facial aging. By correcting sagging facial skin and muscles, removing excess fat, and restoring firmness, a Facelift can create a more youthful, rested, and vibrant appearance. If the signs of aging on your face bother you, an array of non-surgical and surgical treatments including laser and chemical skin resurfacing, injectables and fillers, contour threadlifts, microfat grafting, mini or “MACS” Cheek and Facelift, or a full “SMAS” Facelift, may be the right choice for you. When appropriately selected and applied, facial plastic surgery combined with adjunct treatments can result in a long-lasting, natural, and youthful look. For a Facelift in Beverly Hills consult Dr. Daniel Golshani.

For many people, the neck is the first area to show signs of aging such as weakened neck muscles that cause the appearance of “bands” around the neck. Frequently performed in conjunction with a Mid-Facelift or facial implants, a Neck Lift can improve an aging neck by significantly reducing the appearance of sagging skin under the jaw.

Over time, many patients feel that their eyebrows begin to look droopy, causing them to look sad, depressed, and even angry. Such droopiness or sagging usually occurs in conjunction with other signs of facial aging. Unfortunately, due to hereditary factors and signs of aging, the eyes may not be able to communicate as effectively as we mature. If your upper or lower eyelids have puffy, dropping, or excess skin that make you appear sad or tired, cosmetic eyelid surgery may be right for you.

In order to remain on the cutting edge of plastic surgery and ensuring safe and exceptional care for his patients, Dr. Daniel Golshani Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeon thoroughly evaluates new techniques before incorporating them into his practice. Dr. Golshani’s practice includes the Rexford Surgical Institute (RSI), an AAAHC accredited state-of-the-art surgical facility, and Avosant Beverly Hills, a full-service medi-spa.

Life after weight loss surgery

Friday, February 26th, 2010

As a leading expert on face, breast and body contouring for patients who have undergone bariatric surgery or massive weight loss, Dr. Hoefflin performs all varieties of body contouring procedures. Patients can be confident that Dr. Hoefflin is dedicated toward patient care and providing his patients with natural and beautiful results. In patients who have lost massive weight, they are frequently left with inelastic and excessive skin that no longer can conform to their desired shape.

Patients that have lost large amounts of weight, either as a result of bariatric surgery or through diet and exercise demonstrate residual excess skin around their thighs, buttocks, and abdomen. In patients who are primarily concerned about their outer thighs and buttocks, Dr. Hoefflin performs lower body lift procedures to improve their appearance. If patient’s concern extends to their abdomen, then a belt lipectomy may be necessary. The result is a re-contouring of one’s tissues, thus restoring a more youthful and attractive appearance.

In cases where an individual has undergone dramatic weight loss, he or she may be left with loose, sagging skin on the upper arms. This is a common, though unfortunately unattractive side effect of significant weight loss. Brachioplasty, or arm lift, can help improve the appearance of the arms by a careful removal of excess skin beneath the arms and a tightening of the flabby tissue. Dr. Hoefflin’s team has extensive experience helping patients after successful weight loss look and feel better in their skin.

Body Plastic Surgery by Dr. Jeffrey D. Hoefflin

Dr. Hoefflin’s body contouring procedures includes SmartLipo, a revolutionary new method of removing unwanted fat using a laser to liquefy or “melt” the fat away. It is intended for patients who do not have significant amounts of weight to lose, but rather desire sculpting to improve their contour or shape. Smartlipo™ has many advantages over traditional liposuction techniques. Using a carefully calibrated laser, the safe and highly effective method works to tighten or shrink the skin, creating a newly sculpted appearance. It is highly safe and effective, allowing the surgeon to typically remove more fat from a given area with less risk than traditional liposuction.

One of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures performed today, liposuction (also known as “lipoplasty” or “suction lipectomy”) sculpts the body by removing unwanted fat from areas around the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck. Although not a substitute for dieting or exercise, liposuction is highly effective in removing stubborn areas of fat that do are unresponsive to typical weight-loss methods. The ideal candidates are patients who are physically healthy with firm, elastic skin, and with realistic goals and expectations.

There are individual and gender differences that must be considered when performing either liposuction or abdominoplasty in male patients. During your consultation with Dr. Hoefflin, he will discuss how each procedure can be tailored to meet your individual needs.
